Stolpersteine
berlin
For this year's International Holocaust Remembrance day, I visualised an art project by artist Gunter Demnig called Stolpersteine, which is located in Berlin. Stolpersteine are concrete blocks with a brass top, replacing a pavement stone in front of the last residence of a victim of the Nazis. The brass top is engraved with their name and their fate.
The data includes the victims' names, the address, birth year and the neighbourhood the stone is located in. Most stones are concentrated in only a few districts, which are ordered alphabetically and arranged radially around a stylistic Stolperstein in the center. I decided to include the birth year of the youngest victim in each neighbourhood to highlight the mercilessness of these murders, as the youngest were still infants and toddlers by the time of their murder.
